Doug Blanks. Finishing your pictures.

On Tuesday 6th December our very own Doug Blanks presented a talk and demonstration about finishing your pictures. Pictures you may have thought already finished can be easily improved by using glazes. Doug illustrated the need for a glaze using a picture of a stone pathway amongst stone buildings.... very grey! With the addition of dark glazes to accentuate the shadowy areas, and lighter glazes to add highlights where the sun would be resting- the image was vastly improved. The glazes gave greater depth and added interest. 

Doug used several pictures, to show how glazes can be used on a variety of subjects . His talk largely concentrated on glazes for oils, but the same approach could be used for any painting medium .

Materials used were discussed while Doug demonstrated the techniques, with plenty of questions and comments from the audience.
