Moths, boats, chickens, faces and many other feathery things illustrated today's Zoom meeting. Alongside all these lovely works of art, our discussions included programme recommendations, book recommendations, as well as remembering how doorstep painting demonstrated your pride in your home... however humble!
It is lovely to see all the week's art work for our challenge. Contributions are made by members on holiday, members who can't join us on Zoom, young artists, new members - a wonderful way to pull all of the art group together. The members who can access the Zoom meeting always enjoy the discussion that accompanies viewing the gallery-...
Our weekly challenges are always fun to do , but an added advantage is what we learn when sharing all the artwork. Today there was much sharing of different media and different tools. The difficulties of working in alcohol inks to keep them long lasting on the page, and the processes needed when creating in glass, were just two...
Trains and boats and planes ......and scooters, balloons, maps, piggybacks! What a lovely array of images linked to travel. A really good response from members despite the draw of beautiful weather during this week. Well done all.
Our contributions today showed a wide range of materials and approaches. Physical collages made with papers, fabrics and natural materials, as well as virtual collages made with software. It makes us all look at the world differently when we are encouraged outside our comfort zone now and again, and reinforces that art does not only need to be made...
Well ... this was a challenge .. easy for some and new territory for others ... lots of learning going on.
Lots of debate today about what exactly our challenge was... but as always, the challenge is a good starting point, and art work that springs from it is always very welcome. We saw an array of geometric shapes used creatively, abstractly, digitally, as lettering and as pictorial representations!
Although quite an unusual theme for this week's challenge, it enabled many of us to experiment and explore in shape, colour and also media. As always, we also learnt plenty of unknown facts about the theme- mushrooms as medicinal aids, both historic as used in field dressings in WW1, and future as a support for chemotherapy. Thanks to Margaret for...
Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but it was certainly on Zoom today. We saw beauty in all it's forms, stunning portraits, fields and flowers, impressive sunsets. Beauty is created by DNA... as shown by a wonderful microscopic drawing, and beauty is definitely our beautiful planet... with a painting of the world from space. What a wonderful...
A beautiful afternoon to sketch. The rain stayed away and the sun came out! Essex Bridge is a wonderful location, with a variety of views to choose from. If you were quick on the draw- there were horses crossing the ford, canoes floating by, and ample people walking or cycling across the bridge if you fancied figures in your work. ...
If you fancy a break from all things christmas... I can thoroughly recommend the Maurice Wade Exhibition which is currently at Potteries Museum and Art Gallery. The temporary exhibition is showing a wide range of Wade's work spanning his painting years. He works in a very monochromatic style, creating the stark landscape of the potteries.
Our winter exhibition took place on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd November. Oddfellows was transformed into an Art Gallery of wonderful artworks displayed beautifully. The cafe was available for drinks and cakes at very affordable prices.
This evening, 8th November , we were treated to a presentation by local artist Steve Woodhams. Steve originates from Bloxwich and is soon to be the Chair at the Walsall Artists Group - a well established group of artists for over 70 years.
